The Berne Police Department, is located in North East Indiana, just South of Fort Wayne. Berne is a small city in Adams County, with a population of about 4500. The Berne Police Department is a Full Time department. It is staffed with 7 full time Officers, 5 Reserve Officers and a full time Secretary. The B.P.D. has 4 full marked and equipped police/ patrol vehicles. The B.P.D. is a full service 24 hour/ a day, 365 days a year department. In the early 1940's the Department started out as a "Night Watchman" position. By the end of WW II, the position was declared a "Town Marshal". From the Town of Berne, to now the City of Berne, the Department slowly grows each year.
